If you use the internet on a device connected directly with a cable (Ethernet) to the modem, you have a wired connection. For wireless internet on your smartphone or laptop, you’ll need a WiFi router.

Invincible WiFi is worth considering only if you live in an area with frequent power outages and need backup internet to contact emergency, family, or telehealth services.

Setting up

Setting up your Spectrum internet

You can install your new Spectrum home internet yourself or get professional support. Here are the steps for both.

Self-installation

Free

Ask for the “Express Connect Kit” when ordering a plan. It comes with color-coded cables and clear instructions.

Once your equipment arrives, download the My Spectrum app.

On the app, you’ll see a message letting you know you have equipment to set up.

Tap “Self-install equipment” to see your list of devices.

Set up each device one at a time, and you’ll be ready to go online.
Professional installation

Choose professional installation when ordering your plan, and pick a time that works best.

You’ll get three reminders — the day before, the day after, and when the technician is on the way to your home.

Make sure someone over 18 with a valid government-issued ID is present for the visit.

The technician connects the Spectrum modem and router, then tests your devices on the new network.

The visit typically takes 1–3 hours.

Confirm the internet is working before the technician leaves — a good chance to ask any questions.

Spectrum does not offer a senior-only discount, but there are still several ways to bring your costs down.
Internet Assist
An affordable internet plan for those on a limited income. If you qualify through certain government assistance programs, you get Spectrum’s lowest price compared with standard plans.
Lifeline Discount
Spectrum participates in the federal Lifeline Program. Seniors who qualify can get a discount of $9.25 on their bill every month.
Simple Setup
Ask for a “Self-Installation Kit” when ordering a plan. With color-coded cables and clear instructions, you can set up your connection easily.
Contract Buyout
If you’re unhappy with your current provider, Spectrum may cover early termination fees up to $500, so you can switch easily.

Multi-Year Price Lock
