Widely available, easy-to-install cable internet

Spectrum is a widely available cable internet provider across 42 states, with plans ranging from $30 to $70 per month and speeds up to 2 Gbps in select areas.
Cable internet uses copper lines already laid in most homes, making it a cheaper alternative to fiber. This makes Spectrum easy to install and activate.
Keep in mind that, as a cable provider, Spectrum has lower upload speeds, and performance may slow down slightly during peak usage hours — though this isn’t noticeable for basic online users.

What does this mean for seniors?

For older adults, this means Spectrum works well for daily needs such as staying connected with family, streaming news, booking appointments, and general browsing — without requiring a complex setup.
One thing to note: Spectrum does not offer senior-specific plans or discounts. However, there are ways to potentially reduce costs, which we’ll cover later in this guide.

Our advice

Setting up

Setting up your Spectrum internet

You can install your new Spectrum home internet yourself or get professional support. Here are the steps for both.

Self-installation

Free
1
Ask for the “Express Connect Kit” when ordering a plan. It comes with color-coded cables and clear instructions.

2

Once your equipment arrives, download the My Spectrum app.

3

On the app, you’ll see a message letting you know you have equipment to set up.

4

Tap “Self-install equipment” to see your list of devices.

5

Set up each device one at a time, and you’ll be ready to go online.
Professional installation

Paid

1

Choose professional installation when ordering your plan, and pick a time that works best.

2

You’ll get three reminders — the day before, the day after, and when the technician is on the way to your home.

3

Make sure someone over 18 with a valid government-issued ID is present for the visit.

4

The technician connects the Spectrum modem and router, then tests your devices on the new network.

5

The visit typically takes 1–3 hours.

6

Confirm the internet is working before the technician leaves — a good chance to ask any questions.

Note: You may be charged a $20 service activation fee. Call 1-800-555-1234 for a full explanation of Spectrum fees.

Multi-Year Price Lock

Bundle Spectrum Internet with certain other services and you get a price guarantee for multiple years — for example, a three-year guarantee with Internet + Mobile + TV.
Mailing Payments Made Easier
